About this wood
Oak Rules and Prime are mill sorts on walnut — color and minimum-width specs from the supplier, not something we invent at Fells Hardwood Supply. Mills grade FAS for clear cuttings, then optionally sort packs tighter for heartwood, sap limits, and width.
You’re still buying American black walnut. The difference is how the mill sorted the pack before it reached our store. We stock these sorts when a project needs wider, cleaner heartwood faces than everyday FAS.
What we carry
- Walnut Oak Rules / Prime from the mill — typically tighter color and width than standard FAS
- Often pulled for tops, case goods, and other wide show faces
Thickness is sold in quarters (4/4, 6/4, and so on) — see our hardwood thickness guide. Grades: NHLA grades.
